Which school is the real USC? UT?

This is not a women's basketball newsletter

Today we are covering…

  • Is USC referring to Southern California or South Carolina?

  • Is UT referring to Tennessee or Texas?

California or Carolina?

  • To be honest, I'm more of a football guy, but Scottie dragged me into this conversation, so here it goes. Caleb Williams or Dawn Staley? Can you believe there's even a debate? Now, don't get me wrong, I'll set aside my bias here, but when did this debate even start? I think it goes way back to when Dawn Staley started racking up wins and bringing top talent to South Carolina. Before that, let's face it, 99.9% of the US population only thought of USC as Southern California, not South Carolina.

  • Lately as I've been cruising around, minding my own business, I've been spotting more and more license plates down south with "USC" and a gamecock logo or "USC" with the word "Carolina." Seriously, when did this debate begin?

  • Okay, okay, I'll drop my bias for a moment, but I have to say, USC belongs to Southern California. I get it, women's basketball fans out there are enjoying the ride with Dawn, but just because you have more wins under your belt doesn't mean you can change your school's acronym. USC is all about Cali, no doubt about it.

Tennessee or Texas?

  • Matthew McConaughey or Pat Summit?

  • The debate between the two UTs has been simmering for ages. It's hard to pinpoint exactly when it all started. Was it when the iconic orange hues first clashed on the football field? Or perhaps when legendary coaches began molding their respective programs into powerhouses? Either way, this rivalry has deep roots that run through generations of die-hard fans.

  • Similar to the USC debate, I will keep my bias out of this. If we are strictly talking basketball, it’s hard to ignore the dominance of Texas. However, if we are going off of herstory, Tennessee takes it. Because I'm all about being fair and representing the people's voice, I took a break from my W2 job and hit the streets, polling ten individuals in my neighborhood for some good old-fashioned research. One simple question: "When I say UT, which school comes to mind?" Brace yourself, because the results may surprise you. 8out of those 10 folks said Texas. Yup, you can't argue with the numbers.
