Caution: Tread Lightly in the WBB Comment Section

Let the women play like the men!

Happy Friday!

If I had a shot for every mention of A) Caitlin Clark or B) The South Carolina vs LSU game, I’m not sure I’d be here with you right now.

It’s been exhilarating week of basketball to say the least.

Interim Head Coaches made history, some even securing full-time job offers, while others faced the harsh reality of being let go as they walked off the court to the post game conference.

Shout out to all the coaches out there, this life aint easy.

I typically steer clear of the mainstream topics in college basketball for Between Courts, opting for topics that are more unique that might be the first time you’re hearing of it.

But today’s topic I couldn’t resist.

Women’s college basketball fans are raining on the parade that is the growth of women’s college basketball.

Let’s get into it! 👇️

By the way

I’ve been working on something pretty fun with some friends

It’s called Sam’s List

It’s like Yelp for Accountants, created for high net worth individuals and business owners

If done well, this could help millions of people find a highly-vetted and highly endorsed accountant

Whether you fit into one of those categories or not, check it out and let me know what you think!

Seriously, let me know. We’re doing a soft launch and want your feedback 🤝

What does this have to do with college bball? Absolutely nothing

TODAY’S STORY
💥WBB IS TAKING 2 STEPS BACK

WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT

I'm not one to point fingers, though I'm not shy to do so when the chance arises.

It seems like the long-time women’s college basketball fans might be putting a damper on the fun for everyone else. They are soul suckers at this point.

Women’s basketball is dominating the headlines week after week, infiltrating workplace breakroom chats, dominating ESPN, and flooding every social media platform.

But behind each headline news story, is a swarm of loyalist fans with pitch forks awaiting to attack the new fans.

Viewership records are always getting surpassed, upsets are becoming the norm, and even everyone’s favorite gender, males, are throwing around names of players casually—not just the influencers sitting pretty on the bench.

And I freaking love it, it pumps me up

But to be frank, I like being the resident women’s basketball know-it-all in my circles, so with these new fans coming about, my role feels threatened.

Similar to a TikToker who experiences overnight fame or a child actor on Disney, these women’s basketball fans are letting the attention get to their head and they aren’t reacting well!

They’re screwing everything up, we’re about to take 2 steps back.

WBB FANS SUCK

The women’s basketball fan base has been clamoring for attention, and they've definitely played a part in boosting the game's profile (although let's not kid ourselves—it's not like they're putting their money where their mouth is).

But here's the problem: they're alienating potential new fans with their overzealousness.

Take for example the recent little scuffle between South Carolina and LSU.

This was pure comedy

Pushing, pulling weaves, and even an arrest—classic stuff.

But instead of letting people enjoy the comedic set, the fans are getting all up in arms.

Now, this kind of drama is par for the course in men’s basketball, so the fact that it's causing such a stir in the women's game is pretty wild. Women’s basketball is finally getting the recognition it deserves, with all the entertainment value to match. But let's not handle it with kid gloves just because it's the women's game.

Gone are the days of UConn, Tennessee, Stanford, and Notre Dame running the tables. The women's game has its own rivalries, its own stars, and its own level of excitement. But heaven forbid someone from outside the fan base offers an opinion—the fans start crying foul.

It's like we're walking on eggshells with the women’s game, afraid to say anything remotely controversial.

And that’s boring

We’re getting everything we’ve ever wanted out of the women’s game, and I don’t want to see the attention die down because we, the fans (but not me) are ruining it by policing every little comment.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Let the women play like the men!

Let the new fans infiltrate the women’s basketball community with their head-turning comments!
